This camp runs June 27-July 17 and we are so excited to have Jenna Gonsalves return to Kaua’i to direct this amazing dance performance piece again this Summer.
This is more than just a “dance recital” or “camp”— it’s an experience! Students dive deep into character development, life lessons, and thematic elements that will impact them in amazing ways. Dance styles include: hip hop, breaking, ballet, pointe, jazz, contemporary as well as acting through dance. Dance experience is recommended - beginners welcome!
Koloa Dance House instructors & Light Giver alumni will pop in on various days to coach the dancers and teach both original and brand new choreography. We are reinventing quite a few segments of the show this year, adding in fresh new music and we're so excited to breathe new life into this timeless piece.
FOR YOUR REFERENCE
* The Light Giver is a 40-minute dance theater performance that tells the story of a person’s journey to find the light in the midst of the darkness. Originally developed for KUGA’s 10-year anniversary, we are committed to re-staging this show as a reminder that there is always light in the darkness.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
* Participants must commit to attending every rehearsal. Advance notice should be given if students will miss for any reason. If a student misses more than 7 hours of rehearsal they may be asked to withdraw from performing. If a student is sick, keep them home & please call or text 808-634-2280 as soon as possible to let us know of the absence. If they are sick but not contagious, please have them come sit & observe rehearsal. Because of the quick nature & detailed schedule for learning choreography for The Light Giver, if a student is absent when a piece is set, they may not be a part of that section.
COSTUMES & FOOTWEAR
* There is not a costume fee for this performance as we have an existing collection of costumes for The Light Giver. However, each student might be asked to provide a “base layer” or basics (ie: black leotard, white tank top, black pants, etc). We will try to keep this base layer as simple and inexpensive as possible.
* Once roles are given, we will notify you what type of footwear each student needs (ranges from ballet shoes to boots to black athletic shoes to barefoot). Obtaining the footwear prior to the performance will be each student’s responsibility.
* Makeup & hair details will be given once costumes are assigned/determined.
TUITION
* $475 (that's less than $9/hour!)
* 5% OFF for siblings
* 50% deposit required to hold your spot in the camp. When making the payment at the link to the right, choose "other"and put in $237.50. Balance due by June 24, 2022. Payment Plans available. We will have a limited number of full or partial scholarships for this program.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to us with questions you may have about this program.
